Business Development Consultant
Sales Development Associate, GigaOM Research
GigaOM Research is the new disruptive force in market research on emerging technology. We are seeking to recruit a select number of Sales Development Associates to join us in June, 2013, to help us build new client relationships for GigaOM Enterprise – GigaOM’s corporate subscription product. This is a unique opportunity to work for a company that has deep roots and connections in Silicon Valley. GigaOM offers a ridiculous benefit package and a flexible work environment. All Sales Development Associates must live in the Bay Area and will work from our main office in San Francisco’s SOMA neighborhood.
All Associates will complete a comprehensive, one-month training program – GigaOM University – an immersion into the world of technology. GigaOM U. will include expert speakers from in and around Silicon Valley, teaching the incoming class everything they need to know about the subjects GigaOM covers. From cloud computing to mobile, Consultants will learn about each topic we cover and will be well versed to speak knowledgably about the tech industry upon graduation.
Roles and Responsibilities
As a Sales Development Associate, you will spend the first six (6) months conducing lead development and prospecting. At the conclusion of this period, you will become either a sales manager or account manager. The goal of the role is to identify and qualify new client relationships for GigaOM Research.
In this role you will be asked to:
- Participate in and successfully complete our one-month training program, GigaOM University;
- Participate in GigaOM conferences and events;
- Identify and qualify new business opportunities for GigaOM Research for the first six months of your engagement;
- Articulate the value proposition, drawing on available resources as needed;
- Evaluate each prospect client on based on Budget, Authority, Need and Timing
After completing the first six month training period, successful SDA’s will move onto become full time sales managers or account managers, depending upon your strengths.
Desired Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate is someone that wants to break into technology, but is not a coder or technologist by training. The candidate must be a high energy, critical thinker, with the ability to deliver a complex value proposition in email, by phone, and in person. The ideal candidate’s will also have:
- A passion for technology; a driving interest to continue learning about emerging technologies, and the industries and companies that produce them
- A broad understanding of the market research landscape and familiarity with buyer’s intent to use market research and analyst services to assess the market, direct strategy, drive thought leadership and market awareness
- Successful entrepreneurial experience of some kind
- An ability to think strategically as well as tactically about the art of selling
- A BA/BS from a top university

Front-end Programmer #1

GigaOM is seeking a proactive candidate with excellent communication and computer skills to be an Front-end developer at its headquarters located in San Francisco. The developer is expected to have deep knowledge of JavaScript, AJAX, frameworks/libraries specifically JQuery), mobile app frameworks, HTML/CSS and understands the big picture in the client-server relationship introduced by AJAX. Other responsibilities will include: CSS creation and optimization, specification writing and best practices documentation, and project execution as a developer.

BS/CS or equivalent experience, proficiency with object-oriented programming languages plus 3-7 years experience in media application development. Good verbal & written communications skills are essential.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Front-end programming of updated to existing properties (gigaom.com & pro.gigaom.com) as well as new services currently under development;
- Working with design and product management to come up with optimal user experience for these new services;
- Thorough documentation of architecture and code;
- QA: Implement testing automation tools such as Selenium or TestComplete;
- Slicing designs into HTML/CSS and optimizing page load;
- Interface with backend engineers and potentially handle backend programming on simple projects.
Lead Designer

GigaOM, one of the top tech news sites, read by millions, is looking for a full-time Lead User Experience Designer to work on design and integration across all of our sites. Having completed a refresh of GigaOM.com to be responsive, we are now turning our attention to our premium subscription product, GigaOM Pro so this is an opportunity to make your mark on a service used daily by our top tier subscribers.
We are looking for someone passionate about information design and how to transform content into knowledge using design.
Roles & Responsibilities
- You will report into the Product team but a member of cross-functional project teams
- Your tasks will range from short term template tweaks on up to full-scale re-branding of properties
- You will be the voice of GigaOM design and must be able to articulate design choices
- You will be the keeper of the design pattern library and add and modify as necessary

Experience Required
- Interaction Design, particularly in online publishing
- Passionate about tech news, experience with social media distribution
- Adobe Creative Suite, HTML5 & CSS3 experience a must!!!
- Experience with designing for a CMS, WordPress experience a plus
- Basic web coding, knowledge of javascript
- Previous work experience with engineering team
- Knowledge of mobile development best practices, including responsive web development principles
- Visual Design experience a plus

QA/Build Engineer
QA Manager
GigaOM is seeking a proactive candidate with excellent communication and computer skills to be a QA Manager at its headquarters located in San Francisco. The QA/Build Engineer is a hands-on, jack-of-all-trades person capable of wearing many hats: QA of all software releases, management of off-site/outsourced QA team, code deployment management and automation. An added bonus is the experience with systems administration (not a 24/7 on-call job since those functions are outsourced) for GigaOM production and development servers as well as upkeep of internal IT systems.

Roles & Responsibilities
- QA: Manage off-site outsourced QA team as well as local QA interns;
- QA: Implement testing automation tools such as Selenium or TestComplete;
- QA: Upkeep of Deploy system and development of deploy scripts;
- Automation of build and deploy systems;
- Systems administration and upkeep for all systems: production, development, staging servers and internal system such as our internal data warehouse (GigaCRM);
- In-office IT – ensure proper running of networks, manage file servers, perform support for laptop systems;
- Multi-task and prioritize multiple projects at once;
- Communicate IT/operations/development release schedules to project managers and executive management.

GigaOM, the global news site that writes about the impact of emerging
technology on business, is looking for two summer interns.
Candidates should have experience writing/blogging and should be
interested in science and technology, innovation and business. The
interns will have the opportunity to cover time-sensitive stories and
write features of various kinds — about technologies, people, trends,
etc. Candidates should be comfortable both writing a news story and
coming up with feature ideas. And they should be enterprising when
it comes to tracking down people and information.
One of the internships will be based in New York, and the other in San
Francisco. The internships are paid.
Qualifications:
- Must have some experience writing or blogging
- Must be inquisitive
- Must be able to explain complex ideas in easy-to-understand ways
