Vice President, Research
Ken is the Vice President of Research at Gigaom. He has spent nearly 20 years building and running high tech media, events and research businesses. He was the founding editor of VentureWire, one of the first digital newsletters to cover startups and venture capital. After Dow Jones acquired VentureWire, Ken helped build a new information services business there that also included Private Equity Analyst and VentureSource. Ken also served as Managing Director of Dow Jones Events, running some of the top venture capital and private equity events in North America. Before joining Gigaom, Ken oversaw content and events for the Technology, Media & Telecom practice at Gerson Lehrman Group. He holds a BS in Geology & Geophysics from Yale and lives in Brooklyn.
Ashar Baig is Research Director for Cloud at Gigaom Research. He is focused on Cloud Computing, Storage & Server Virtualization, Storage (hardware, software, filesystems, I/O, etc.), Data Protection (Data Backup, Disaster Recovery, & Business Continuity), VDI, Security, Archiving, Public & Private Cloud Storage, High Performance Computing (HPC), & Managed Service Providers (MSPs).
Ashar has over 18 years of high-tech industry experience with senior roles at Taneja Group, Asigra, Artisan Infrastructure, Camouflage Software, IBM, Telcus, HP, Siemens and Intel.
Ashar is passionate about driving industry standards and evangelizing them. Until recently, he was the Chairman of the Special Interest Group (SIG) focused on Cloud Backup, Recovery, and Restore (BURR) within Cloud Storage Initiative (CSI) of Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA). He volunteers for SNIA’s Cloud Storage Initiative (CSI), Analytics and Big Data Committee (ABDC) and Data Protection and Capacity Optimization (DPCO) committee.
Andrew Brust is Research Director for Big Data and Analytics at Gigaom Research. Andrew has over 25 years of technology industry experience, having worked as a developer, consultant and tech entrepreneur over that span of time. Andrew began working with ISAM databases in the 80s, client/server databases in the early 90s and Business Intelligence technology in the late 90s. He covered Big Data for ZDNet from 2012 until 2014 and has been writing for technology publications and speaking at tech conferences for the last 20 years.
Andrew is an advisor to NYTECH, the New York Technology Council; co-moderator of Big On Data – New York’s Data Intelligence Meetup; co-author of “Programming Microsoft SQL Server 2012″ (Microsoft Press); columnist for Visual Studio Magazine and co-chair of the Visual Studio Live! developer conference. He also served on Microsoft’s BI partner advisory council for five years.
Vice President, Gigaom Research
David Card has been following the intersection of technology, media, and consumer behavior 20+ years at Gigaom Research, Jupiter Research, IDC and Forrester. At Jupiter, Card headed up digital media and marketing research, and acted as VP, research development. At Forrester he worked with marketing leaders to refine their interactive strategies, and at IDC he was lead Microsoft and consumer Internet analyst. Aside from Gigaom events, and Forrester and Jupiter Forums, Card has spoken at major industry events such as E3, the Newspaper Association of America’s new media conference, the PBS/NPR new media forum, Texas University’s Online Journalism Symposium, Digital Music Forum East, Digital Hollywood, the Inverge conference, and Software Marketing Perspectives. He is frequently quoted in the traditional and online press and has appeared on ABC World News Tonight, ESPN, and NPR.
Cormac Foster is a Research Director at Gigaom Research covering Mobile Technologies and Enterprise Operations. He has spent nearly 20 years in enterprise technology as a QA manager, product manager, industry analyst, and writer. As an Analyst at Jupiter Research, he covered content management, security, and enterprise operations. As a consultant, he has worked with a number of enterprise technology providers, including Dell, Research in Motion, Borland, Trend Micro, and Avocent. He has spoken at a number of industry events, appeared on CNN and ABC News, and has written for CNET, ReadWrite, and several other technology publications.
Megan Giller is an editor for Gigaom Research. She edits reports, blog posts and other Research content and also copyedits material across the Gigaom business. Before joining Gigaom she worked as an editor and writer at Texas Monthly magazine and as a manuscript editor at the University of Texas Press. She holds a B.A. in English and Plan II from the University of Texas. Based in Austin, Texas, Megan enjoys cooking, eating out, and running with her dog, Echo.
Jenn Marston has been a writer and editor for over 10 years. As the Managing Editor she oversees the development and publication of all content for Gigaom Research. Before joining Gigaom she worked as a Reporter and Online Managing Editor for XLR8R magazine, covering music and the intersection of music and technology. She holds a BA from Denison University and a MFA from the University of San Francisco. When she is not at Gigaom she plays competitive pinball and is the founder and commissioner of a Brooklyn, NYC-based pinball league.
Senior Director of Product Development
Caroline is Senior Director of Product Development at Gigaom Research. She is a veteran in the tech industry and has led many projects focused on strategy and business transformation for Fortune 500 companies using technologies such as cloud computing. Caroline has a background in network and security engineering, enterprise operations and data center outsourcing and has served at companies such as ServiceMesh, VMware, Cisco, EMC, Siemens, CSC, the BBC and Motorola. Most recently, Caroline was Head of Product at Piston Cloud Computing, an enterprise OpenStack software company. Caroline enjoys cycling, racing cars, reading comics, cooking and listening to all types of music, especially EDM.
Matthew Spady has been managing the production of research for more than twenty years, with experience ranging from international investment banks to globally respected market research firms. With Gigaom Research, he directs the production of underwritten research and sponsored webinars. Earlier he was Research Production Director at ABI Research and also held positions at Commerzbank and UBS. He devotes his spare time to restoring old homes and promoting the history of the Audubon Park neighborhood in northern Manhattan.
